Error Estimates for a Class of Elliptic Optimal Control Problems

In this article, functional type a posteriori error estimates are presented for a certain class of optimal control problems with elliptic partial differential equation constraints. It is assumed that in the cost functional the state is measured in terms of the energy norm generated by the state equation. The functional a posteriori error estimates developed by Repin in the late 1990s are applied to estimate the cost function value from both sides without requiring the exact solution of the state equation. Moreover, a lower bound for the minimal cost functional value is derived. A meaningful error quantity coinciding with the gap between the cost functional values of an arbitrary admissible control and the optimal control is introduced. This error quantity can be estimated from both sides using the estimates for the cost functional value. The theoretical results are confirmed by numerical tests.     

Stability in terms of two measures of solutions to stochastic partial differential delay equations with switching

In this paper, the problem of stability in terms of two measures is considered for a class of stochastic partial differential delay equations with switching. Sufficient conditions for stability in terms of two measures are obtained based on the technique of constructing a proper approximating strong solution system and conducting a limiting type of argument to pass on stability of strong solutions to mild ones. In particular, the stochastic stability under the fixed‐index sequence monotonicity condition and under the average dwell‐time switching are considered.     

Pseudo–almost‐periodic solutions for delayed differential equations with integrable dichotomies and bi–almost‐periodic Green functions

Using the existence of integrable bi–almost‐periodic Green functions of linear homogeneous differential equations and the contraction fixed point, we are able to prove the existence of almost and pseudo–almost‐periodic mild solutions under quite general hypotheses for the differential equation with constant delay in a Banach space X, where τ>0 is a fixed constant. The results extend the corresponding ones in the case of exponential dichotomy. Some examples illustrate the importance of the concepts.     

A regularized trace formula and oscillation of eigenfunctions of a Sturm‐Liouville operator with retarded argument at 2 points of discontinuity

In this study, first, a formula for regularized sums of eigenvalues of a Sturm‐Liouville problem with retarded argument at 2 points of discontinuity which contains a spectral parameter in the boundary conditions is obtained. After that, oscillation properties of the related problem is investigated. Finally, under the condition that a subset of nodal points is dense in definition set, the potential function is determined.     

An eco‐epidemiological predator–prey model where predators distinguish between susceptible and infected prey

A predator–prey model with disease amongst the prey and ratio‐dependent functional response for both infected and susceptible prey is proposed and its features analysed. This work is based on previous mathematical models to analyse the important ecosystem of the Salton Sea in Southern California and New Mexico where birds (particularly pelicans) prey on fish (particularly tilapia). The dynamics of the system around each of the ecologically meaningful equilibria are presented. Natural disease control is considered before studying the impact of the disease in the absence of predators and the interaction of predators and healthy prey and the disease effects on predators in the absence of healthy prey. Characterization of canonical classes for systems of linear ODEs

The equivalence group is determined for systems of linear ordinary differential equations in both the standard form and the normal form. It is then shown that the normal form of linear systems reducible by an invertible point transformation to the canonical form y ⁽ⁿ⁾=0 consists of copies of the same iterative scalar equation. It is also shown that contrary to the scalar case, an iterative vector equation need not be reducible to the canonical form by an invertible point transformation. Other properties of iterative linear systems are also derived, as well as a simple algebraic formula for their general solution. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

The existence of a positive solution for nonlinear fractional differential equations with integral boundary value conditions

In this paper, first, we consider the existence of a positive solution for the nonlinear fractional differential equation boundary value problem where 0≤λ < 1,^CD^α is the Caputo's differential operator of order α, and f:[0,1] × [0,∞)→[0,∞) is a continuous function. Using some cone theoretic techniques, we deduce a general existence theorem for this problem. Then, we consider two following more general problems for arbitrary α, 1≤n < α≤n + 1: Problem 1: where , 0≤λ < k + 1; Problem 2: where 0≤λ≤α and D^α is the Riemann–Liouville fractional derivative of order α. Two homoclinic solutions for a nonperiodic fourth‐order differential equation without coercive condition

In this paper, we investigate the existence of homoclinic solutions for a class of fourth‐order nonautonomous differential equations where w is a constant, and . By using variational methods and the mountain pass theorem, some new results on the existence of homoclinic solutions are obtained under some suitable assumptions. The interesting is that a(x) and f(x,u) are nonperiodic in x,a does not fulfil the coercive condition, and f does not satisfy the well‐known (AR)‐condition. Furthermore, the main result partly answers the open problem proposed by Zhang and Yuan in the paper titled with Homoclinic solutions for a nonperiodic fourth‐order differential equations without coercive conditions (see Appl. Stochastic partial functional differential equations with locally monotone coefficients,locally Lipschitz non-linearity and delay

In this paper, we study the existence and uniqueness of strong solutions for stochastic partial functional differential equations with locally monotone coefficients, locally Lipschitz non-linearity, and time delay. Our results extend previous results obtained by Liu–Röckner, Caraballo et al. and Taniguchi et al. Examples are given to illustrate the wide applicability of our results.
